Austin Energy - Weatherization Assistance Loan Program

Austin Energy's Weatherization Assistance Program provides free home energy improvements—including insulation, duct sealing, LED lighting, and smart thermostats—plus a 0% interest loan for up to 10 years on a new air conditioning system if you qualify. To apply, you must be an Austin Energy customer living in a single-family home, duplex, triplex, fourplex, or mobile home under 2,500 square feet that is more than 10 years old, and your household income must not exceed 80% of the area median income (ranging from $68,500 for one person to $129,100 for eight people). Submit the Weatherization Assistance Program Form online or by mail to get started, and Austin Energy will contact you to schedule a free home energy assessment.

Participating contractors conduct the free home energy assessments, install weatherization improvements, and handle the air conditioning system installation for qualifying customers at no upfront cost to homeowners. You'll work directly with homeowners for warranty claims during the one-year warranty period following installation; the program covers materials and labor for eligible improvements on properties that meet Austin Energy's eligibility criteria (owner-occupied or renter-occupied with landlord permission, properties under 2,500 sq ft, more than 10 years old, not previously weatherized within 10 years).

The Weatherization Assistance Program provides free energy improvements and 0% financing for AC systems to income-qualified Austin Energy customers on a first-come, first-served basis with limited funding. Eligible households must be enrolled in the Customer Assistance Program or Medically Vulnerable Registry and meet the 80% median family income threshold; properties must be single-family to fourplex units, under 2,500 sq ft, over 10 years old, and valued at $478,195 or less (excluding land). Program staff manage intake via application forms, coordinate participating contractor assessments and installations, conduct final inspections, maintain a potential waiting list when capacity is reached, and handle warranty administration for the one-year coverage period.
