Ohio - National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Grant Program

This program funds public fast-charging stations along Ohio highways and major corridors, not residential installations, so it does not directly provide incentives for homeowner EV charging. If you need home charging support, check for separate Ohio EV incentive programs.
Contractors can bid on NEVI-funded projects to install DC fast-charging equipment at approved locations along Ohio's alternative fuel corridors, spaced roughly 50 miles apart and within one mile of Interstate exits. Ohio has conducted two rounds of competitive awards (23 and 26 locations respectively) and plans a third round for 15 locations in late summer 2024; review the Ohio Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Deployment Plan and upcoming RFPs for specific eligibility and technical requirements.
NEVI is a $5 billion federal program administered under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, with Ohio receiving an allocation to build out corridor charging infrastructure. The program aims to place DC fast chargers at standardized intervals along designated alternative fuel corridors; Ohio has managed two award rounds (July 2023 and planned May 2024) and expects to launch a third RFP in late summer 2024 for 15 additional locations, targeting commercial deployment along highway networks.

Program summary
Note: The Federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) created the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Grant Program with a total budget of $5 billion. Each state was allocated a share of that total to help build out a national network of electric vehicle charging stations along designated alternative fuel corridors (AFCs). With some limited exceptions, EV charging stations funded through the NEVI program should be spaced 50 miles apart and within one mile of the Interstate exit or highway.
Ohio has conducted two rounds of NEVI funding so far, with awards for the first round, for 23 locations, being announced in July 2023; the second round awards, for 26 locations, were planned to be announced in May 2024 but are not yet available on the program website. A Request for Proposals for a third round of funding, for 15 locations, is expected in late Summer 2024.
