Kentucky - National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Grant Program

Kentucky's NEVI program funds DC fast charging stations spaced roughly 50 miles apart along major corridors to support long-distance EV travel. While this is primarily a commercial infrastructure program, expanded charging networks will make EV ownership more practical by providing accessible, convenient charging options across the state.
Contractors can bid on NEVI-funded DC fast charging projects through periodic Requests for Proposals; the most recent application deadline is July 13, 2026 at 11:00 am ET via the Kentucky Vendor Self Service website. Stations must meet federal spacing (50 miles apart) and location requirements (within one mile of Interstate exits or highways) as detailed in Kentucky's GIS Zone Map and RFP documents.
Kentucky has allocated $31.6 million in obligated funds for fast charging construction and secured $17.8 million in additional federal funds through its updated EV Infrastructure Deployment Plan (approved September 16, 2025) to expand Phase 2 and 3 along priority corridors and community destinations. The program targets commercial charging deployment along Alternative Fuel Corridors to support EV adoption and economic development, with funding flowing from the federal NEVI Formula Grant Program established under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

Program summary
Note: The Federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) created the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Grant Program with a total budget of $5 billion. Each state was allocated a share of that total to help build out a national network of electric vehicle charging stations along designated alternative fuel corridors (AFCs). With some limited exceptions, EV charging stations funded through the NEVI program should be spaced 50 miles apart and within one mile of the Interstate exit or highway.
Kentucky has conducted three rounds of funding under two Requests for Proposals, one in Summer 2023 and another in Spring 2024. So far a total of $27.2 million in funding has been allocated.
