Program Summary
The Maine Department of Transportation's plan for NEVI funding will help construct about 1,105 miles of EV charging corridors. On March 23, 2023, Efficiency Maine released an RFP for DC fast charging stations (Maine Phase 5), and proposals were due by June 22, 2023. The Maine DOT released its 2023 plan update during Q3 2023, which details that planning activities will continue during FY 22-26 to determine the best use of NEVI funds later in the years. Efficiency Maine released another RFP for DC fast charging station (Maine Phase 6) in early October 2023, with a proposal due date of January 16, 2024. Awards for this RFP were released in Q1 2024, and nine sites with 37 DCFC ports were awarded. A progress report was then released in May 2024, which stipulated that out of 15 NEVI-supported DCFC stations, one was designated as active, and the rest were designated as coming soon.Maine publicized its 2024 NEVI Plan update in September 2024, which includes several updates to the previous plan. These updates include additional detail on the state’s public engagement efforts, expanded discussion of how Maine is adhering to Justice40 goals, and plans for another round of NEVI Requests for Proposals (Phase 7 RFP). In total, 14 NEVI-related RFP contracts have been awarded, with the earliest project becoming operational on March 20, 2024, and the latest expected to be operational by summer 2025. In addition, as of the 2024 plan update, four DC fast-charging (DCFC) sites were under construction and expected to be operational by fall 2024.Maine published its FY2026 NEVI Plan update in September 2025. This update details the addition of 16 new charging ports funded with FY2026 funds that are expected to be operational by 2028. The plan also summarizes deployment under prior fiscal years, including 18 NEVI-funded ports from FY2022–FY2023 that are expected to be operational by the end of 2025, 20 ports from FY2024 anticipated to be operational by Q1 2026, and 32 ports from FY2025 expected to be operational in 2027.
