Duke Energy - PowerPair
Administered by Duke Energy
Duke Energy's PowerPair program offers up to $9,000 in upfront rebates when you install a solar PV system paired with lithium-ion battery storage at your home. You'll need to enroll in either the Solar Choice Tariff (requires Time-of-Use rates) or the Bridge Rate (allows standard rates but requires Duke to control your battery and enroll you in their Battery Control Program, which adds monthly bill credits). Note that PowerPair funding is fully allocated in Duke Energy Progress territory with a waitlist, though Duke Energy Carolinas territory has approximately 7,210 kW in capacity remaining.
PowerPair is a strong customer value proposition offering residential customers substantial upfront incentives up to $9,000 for paired solar-plus-storage systems. You must ensure customers understand the two enrollment pathways and their rate implications—Solar Choice Tariff customers need Time-of-Use rates, while Bridge Rate customers gain additional monthly credits but must allow Duke to dispatch their battery. Capacity is limited, with Progress territory fully subscribed and Carolinas territory approaching limits, so prompt application submission is critical.
PowerPair incentivizes residential solar-plus-storage deployment through capacity-limited rebates (up to $9,000 per customer) funded in two Duke Energy territories with different availability: Progress territory is fully allocated with a waitlist, while Carolinas territory has approximately 7,210 kW remaining. The program uses random selection for initial applications (four-week window ending June 7, 2024) followed by first-come, first-served enrollment; participants must choose between Solar Choice Tariff and Bridge Rate, with Bridge Rate participants enrolled in the Battery Control Program providing both dispatch control and monthly bill credits to Duke for demand-response flexibility.

Program summary
Note: PowerPair funding in Duke Energy Progress territory is fully allocated and a waitlist has been established. As of February 2026, 7,210 kW in capacity remain for the program in Duke Energy Carolinas territory.
Duke Energy's PowerPair program provides financial incentives to customers who install solar photovoltaic (PV) plus storage systems at their homes. All participants will receive an upfront incentive based on the size of their PV and battery systems, up to a maximum of $9,000.
Participants must enroll in either Duke Energy's Solar Choice Tariff or Bridge Rate. Both options are functionally similar to net metering; however, the Solar Choice Tariff requires customers to be on a Time-of-Use rate, while the Bridge Rate allows customers to be on non-time-varying rates. Customers who participate via the Bridge Rate, however, must also grant control of the battery system to Duke and participate in its EnergyWise/Power Manager Battery Control Program. The Battery Control Program also provides monthly bill credits based on their system's make and model.
Incentives will initially be awarded through a random selection process (RSP). The RSP window will be four weeks in length, from May 10, 2024 to June 7, 2024. Applications can be submitted at any time within the RSP window. Incentive reservation or waitlist placement will be communicated by June 20. On June 21 enrollment will resume on a first-come, first-served basis.
