Governmental Alternative Fuel Fleet Grant Program

This program is currently closed as of May 2025, so new applications are not being accepted. When active, it provided grants for governmental fleets (not individual homeowners) to purchase or lease electric vehicles and other alternative-fuel vehicles, with grant amounts varying by vehicle class.

When operational, it supported sales of new electric and alternative-fuel vehicles to eligible government entities including state agencies, counties, municipalities, and school districts operating fleets of more than 15 vehicles, with predetermined grant amounts ranging from $17,000 to $80,000 depending on vehicle class.

The Governmental Alternative Fuel Fleet Grant Program (GAFF), administered by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality as part of TERP, provided competitive grants for purchases or leases of electric, hydrogen fuel cell, CNG, LNG, and LPG vehicles by governmental entities; grant amounts were pre-determined by vehicle class (Class 1: $17,000 through Class 7-8/school buses: $80,000), with priority given to nonattainment and affected counties statewide, and up to 10% of funds available for refueling infrastructure. The program is currently closed as of May 2025.
