Clean Fuel Advanced Technology (CFAT) Project

This commercial grant program funds electric vehicle charging infrastructure and zero-emission vehicle projects in North Carolina, with up to $450,000 available per project. You can help your commercial customers access federal CFAT grants worth up to $450,000 per project to deploy EV charging equipment, school buses, transit buses, and other zero-emission vehicles across 24 target counties or all 100 NC counties for charging projects. Projects must be submitted by the application deadline and align with the RFP requirements, including technical standards for DC fast charging and budget documentation.
CFAT distributes up to $5.9 million in annual federal Congestion Mitigation Air Quality funding from NC Department of Transportation to reduce transportation emissions in 24 eligible counties, with charging infrastructure projects accepted statewide across all 100 counties. Individual awards range from $5,000 to $450,000, project periods run two years (July 2025–June 2027), and applications are managed by NC State University; applicants submit via email with required RFP documentation, budget templates, and technical specifications.

The Clean Fuel Advanced Technology project is supported with Congestion Mitigation Air Quality funds provided by the NC Department of Transportation. The primary purpose of this program is to reduce emissions related to transportation in 24 eligible counties in North Carolina.
