Charge Up New Jersey Program

The Charge Up New Jersey Program offers up to $4,250 in total savings when you buy or lease a new electric vehicle: $1,500 for any eligible resident, plus an additional $2,500 if you qualify by income, plus up to $250 toward a home charger. You apply at a participating dealership at the point of sale, and the incentive is applied instantly to your purchase or lease—the dealer then submits the application for reimbursement on your behalf.

Dealerships in the Charge Up New Jersey network can offer customers immediate rebates of $1,500 (all residents) or $4,000 (income-qualified residents) at point of sale for new EVs under $55,000 MSRP, with an additional $250 charger incentive available; dealers must be listed as eligible and will submit reimbursement applications after sale completion. For the $4,000 Charge Up+ incentive, customers must prequalify before the sale, so coordinate with buyers on the income-qualification process beforehand.

Charge Up New Jersey distributes $245 million across fiscal years 2022–2027 (with $75 million in 2025 and $50 million in 2026) for EV and charger incentives, with funding replenished as applications are canceled. The program targets residential EV purchasers and lessees with vehicles under $55,000 MSRP, using point-of-sale application processing and income verification for the Charge Up+ tier; chargers purchased before July 1, 2025 are ineligible, and the program tracks real-time funding availability to manage application submissions.
