Program Summary

The Massachusetts Clean Energy Center offers grants to commercial entities installing eligible biomass heating systems.Project sites must be located in a utility territory that contributes to the Renewable Energy Trust Fund (National Grid, Eversource, Unitil, and municipal light plants that have agreed to pay into the fund).The base grant is 35% of eligible project costs, up to $175,000. Adders are available for thermal storage (5% of total costs, up to $25,000), cascading systems (2.5% of total costs, up to $12,500), and distribution system efficiency (2.5% of total costs, up to $12,500). An adder is also available for public, non-profit, and affordable housing projects (5% of total costs, up to $25,000). The total maximum grant is 50% of total eligible project costs, up to $250,000.Applications must be submitted and approved before construction begins.
