Blue Ridge EMC - Net Metering

Blue Ridge EMC's net metering program allows you to install solar, small wind, or small hydroelectric systems up to 25 kilowatts and receive credits for excess generation you send to the grid at the retail electricity rate, with unused credits rolling over monthly and any remaining balance paid out each May 31. Note that net metering customers are on a different rate tariff with a lower per-kilowatt-hour rate but higher grid service charges and minimum bills than standard residential customers.

Net metering customers' excess generation is credited monthly at Blue Ridge EMC's approved retail rate, and the program accepts systems up to 25 kilowatts with no aggregate capacity cap. You'll need to submit an interconnection request and a certificate of completion with an interconnection agreement; contact the Energy Solutions Manager at 800-451-5474 for requirements and to guide customers through the process.

Net metering credits residential customers' renewable exports at retail rate on a monthly basis with annual true-up on May 31, when remaining credits are paid at the net billing rider rate. The program is available for solar, wind, and micro-hydro systems up to 25 kilowatts with no aggregate limit, and accounts are placed on a separate rate schedule with lower energy charges but higher fixed charges and minimum bills to offset the retail-rate crediting structure.
