Eagle County - Energy Smart Colorado Energy Efficiency Rebate Program
Administered by Walking Mountains Science Center
Eagle County residents can access up to $1,000/year in direct energy efficiency rebates for improvements like heat pumps, water heaters, insulation, and lighting by scheduling a free home energy assessment with Walking Mountains Science Center and working with an Energy Coach before starting their project. Low-income households (up to 150% Area Median Income) qualify for ReEnergize Eagle County, which offers up to $7,500 toward improvements plus free efficiency upgrades.
Contractors can help Eagle County customers access rebates covering a wide range of measures including geothermal heat pumps, HVAC equipment, water heaters, windows, and insulation by ensuring customers complete a home energy assessment and submit applications before project start. The program requires documentation and photos; contractors should coordinate with Walking Mountains Energy Coaches to verify rebate eligibility and help customers maximize available incentives from utilities and municipalities like Vail and Avon.
Eagle County's Energy Smart program, administered through Walking Mountains Science Center and funded in part by Eco-Build fees, has distributed over $1.2 million in rebates since inception and serves 12 counties plus multiple utility territories. The program operates through local Energy Resource Centers staffed with BPI-certified Home Energy Advisors who conduct assessments and enroll customers; rebates are capped at $1,000/year for residents and $5,000/year for business/multifamily buildings, with enhanced support for income-qualified households through ReEnergize Eagle County.

Energy Smart in Eagle County
The Energy Smart program serves Eagle County through the Walking Mountains Science Center. The Energy Smart program in Eagle County is funded in part by Eagle County Eco-Build funds which are fees for energy building code mitigation collected in unincorporated Eagle County. Since its inception, over $1.2 million in community grants, solar rebates, and energy efficiency rebates have been distributed into the community.
Home Energy Assessment
Interested homeowners can schedule a reduced-cost home energy assessment with a qualified Energy Smart Analyst who will come to the home and perform a comprehensive home safety and energy assessment.
