BTU's SmartHOME program reimburses you 10–25% of your project costs for energy-efficient upgrades to your home's envelope, including attic or wall insulation, Energy Star windows, or solar screens. You must own a single- or multi-family home with electric central heat and air conditioning in BTU territory, submit your application before or immediately after completing work within the October–September fiscal year, and provide invoices plus before and after photos. Expect your incentive check within three to four weeks of submitting complete materials.

SmartHOME offers customers a straightforward rebate covering 10–25% of material and labor costs for qualifying envelope improvements, making your services more affordable and attractive. Ensure work meets program standards: attic insulation must reach at least R-30 (from a maximum existing R-22), exterior walls R-13 (from zero existing insulation), windows must be Energy Star certified for Texas or all 50 states with full-unit replacement, and solar screens must block 65% of solar heat gain on east/west-facing windows. All work must be completed within BTU's fiscal year (October 1–September 30), and you'll need to provide itemized invoices showing charges and square footage for the improved areas.

SmartHOME operates on an annual fiscal-year cycle (October 1–September 30) with incentive amounts calculated using pre-determined average kW savings per measure, as established by the Public Utility Commission of Texas in Project No. 22241, capped at 10% minimum and 25% maximum of total project cost. The program targets owner-occupied single- and multi-family homes with electric central heating and cooling in BTU service territory, excluding mobile homes and additions, and processes applications with supporting documentation (invoices, before/after photos) through a one-time check mailing within three to four weeks. BTU may conduct physical inspections pre- or post-completion to verify compliance with program guidelines.
