The CitySmart Program is designed for local government, schools, and tribal government facilities—not residential homeowners. If you manage a public facility, AEP offers no-cost energy benchmarking, master planning workshops, and technical assistance to identify efficiency opportunities, plus monetary incentives to help implement projects like LED lighting, HVAC, and refrigeration upgrades.
CitySmart is a no-product, no-service sales program where qualified contractors support eligible public sector customers (local government, schools, tribal government) through AEP-partnered energy efficiency service providers. Your role is implementing incentivized projects in technologies including LED lighting, HVAC, motor VFDs, roofs, compressed air, and food service equipment—with program staff providing performance benchmarking and technical guidance to help customers identify and execute qualifying retrofits.
CitySmart delivers no-cost energy consulting and monetary rebates exclusively to local government, schools, and tribal government facilities in AEP's Central service territory (covering communities like Corpus Christi, Laredo, McAllen, Brownsville, and Victoria). The program funds performance benchmarking, master planning workshops, and technical assistance; participants receive incentives for qualifying projects across eight technology categories, with implementation managed through vetted energy efficiency service providers.

Program summary
The CitySmart Program is designed to help participants identify energy efficiency opportunities in existing and newly planned city facilities. Monetary incentives are also available to help implement the projects. The program is being offered at no cost to participants. CitySmart is a voluntary program that offers objective, third party consulting in the areas of energy usage and energy efficiency. It is important to note that no products or services are sold through the CitySmart Program. Performance benchmarking for existing buildings, master planning workshops, technical assistance and communications support are also available through this program.
