Program Summary

In June 2004, the Chicago City Council passed an ordinance including the Chicago Standard. This standard requires all city-funded new construction projects and city-funded major renovation projects to meet the green building standard set out in the Chicago Standard. This standard is derived from the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) version 2.1 standards. Buildings that meet the Chicago Standard will qualify to be LEED Certified.

The program is implemented by the Department of General Services.
