Program Summary

The Next Step Program is an initiative of the Green Jobs Alliance designed to promote and implement residential and commercial energy efficiency programs throughout the 16 localities that make up the Hampton Roads area. Residents and business owners in the Hampton Roads, Virginia area can register for an in-home consultation and find participating contractors by calling the number provided. An energy auditor will identify energy efficiency measures resulting in utility savings and improved health based on Energy Star recommendations. Next Step pays incentives directly to the contractor. This program is part of the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) BetterBuildings Program. The DOE has awarded over $500 million in federal funds to more than 40 states, local governments, and organizations to administer local programs targeting a variety of building types. Combined, these local programs are expected to improve the efficiency of more than 170,000 buildings through 2013 and save up to $65 million in energy costs annually.
