Program Summary
Through a grant from the Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction Fund (GHGERF), the NH EnergySmart Schools Program offers schools in the state an opportunity to better understand their energy use and information about how to reduce that consumption. This program does not offer financial incentives, rather it offers free technical services to benchmark schools' energy use. For schools that are found to be energy efficient, the program will provide additional verification services required for the Environmental Protection Agency's ENERGY STAR label. Participating schools must submit their electric and heating bills for at least 12 months (preferably 36 months) and complete the program's "Building Data Request Form." The information will be analyzed and results will be provided regarding the buildings' performance and compare the buildings to other schools. The report will include recommendations for improving energy efficiency, as well as summarize utility and state incentives that are available to off-set costs of implementing recommended improvements.
