Program Summary

The City of Akron Energy Efficient Conservation Block Grant is part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The New Residential Construction Energy Rebate Program offers between $15,000 and $25,000 dollars for new homes constructed in 2011. Homes must meet the minimum standard indicated by the 2006 International Energy Conservation Code and the Summit County Building Code. In addition, the home must rate a 50 or less on the Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Index. Incentive levels vary based on the rating. In order to qualify for the rebate, a new construction permit must be issued between September 1, 2010 and June 30, 2011. Rebates are for single family detached homes built within the City of Akron. Residents have 6 months after receiving a rebate reservation to complete construction. Interested residents should download the rebate reservation form on the program web site (listed above). Rebates are awarded on a first come, first served basis, except for 5 rebates, which are set aside for builders, investors, and developers.
