Program Summary

2013 Update: This program is no longer available. In Massachusetts, home owners renovating, remodeling, or otherwise making home improvements to existing homes in territories of sponsoring utilities and energy efficiency service providers* can receive up to $2,000 and free screw-in compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) for certain fixtures by working with a Mass Save approved vendor and making improvements according to a set of criteria that are all aimed at improving the efficiency of the home and renovation. To participate and become eligible for the incentives, the homeowner must select and work with a Mass Save vendor to identify efficiency upgrade opportunities. Homeowners must first contact the program and sign up before any demolition work takes place. Certain requirements applicable to the exterior walls, attic ceilings (flat), crawl space, and sealed ductwork must be met in the existing structures. For gutted areas, or new construction, requirements such as meeting parts of the ENERGY STAR Thermal Enclosure System Rater Checklist, must be met. See the program application for details.   *Sponsoring utilities, that support the program through rate-payer collected funds, include Cape Light Compact, National Grid, NSTAR Electric, and Western Massachusetts Electric.
