Maryland - Residential Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program

S. Department of Energy (DOE) is providing a total of $300 million to U.S. states, U.S. territories and the District of Columbia to establish rebate programs for new energy-efficient appliances that replace existing appliances in homes. Each state and territory has designed its own program. Rebates will be available until the state or territory program's funding is exhausted. Be sure to confirm that rebate funds are still available in your state or territory before making purchasing decisions. Maryland is offering rebates to resident homeowners who install qualifying appliances and HVAC measures in replacement of an existing appliance or system. All appliances must meet certain minimum energy efficiency requirements in order to qualify for a rebate. Rebates are not retroactive, so the program will only provide incentives for qualifying appliances purchased on or after the opening dates of the program. For electric heat pump hot water heaters, refrigerators, and clothes washers the program opened April 22, 2010. For central AC systems, air-source heat pumps, freezers, and room AC systems the program opened July 30, 2010. Landlords and property managers are not eligible for rebates under this program. These rebates are in addition to any rebate that may be offered by the customer's utility. For five of the state's utilities -- BGE, PEPCO, Allegheny Power, Delmarva, and SMECO -- application for a rebate will take place through the customer's utility. For customers of utilities not listed above (i.e., customers of electric cooperative and municipal utilities) the Maryland Energy Administration will run a simplified rebate program.
