Program Summary

The Green Building Act was passed in an effort to promote energy efficiency and water conservation in new and existing government buildings in Puerto Rico. The law mandates that new buildings should be designed, built, and certified according to the standards of United States Green Building Council (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED*), energy consumption standards issued by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), the International Energy Conservation Codes (IECC) or other nationally recognized, high-performance green building rating system.
