City of Tallahassee Utilities - Solar Water Heating Rebate
Administered by City of Tallahassee Utilities
You can receive a $450 rebate when you install a solar water-heating system on your primary residence or rental property, whether it's a new installation or replacement of an older system. To qualify, you must allow the City of Tallahassee to conduct an energy audit of your home, ensure your contractor uses FSEC-certified equipment and obtains proper permits and inspections, and note that pool heating systems are not eligible.
You can help your customers access a $450 rebate by installing FSEC-certified, indirect, freeze-protected solar water-heating systems and managing all required city, county, and state permits and inspections. You must be a state-licensed solar or plumbing contractor, and the homeowner's property will need to pass a City of Tallahassee energy audit before the rebate is approved.
This rebate program provides $450 per installation to encourage solar water-heating adoption in Tallahassee's residential sector (owner-occupied and rental properties). The program requires applicant energy audits to assess site suitability, mandates FSEC certification and state-licensed contractor installation, and routes permit and inspection oversight through City of Tallahassee or Leon County Building Inspection. Pool heating systems are explicitly excluded from eligibility.

Program summary
The City of Tallahassee Utilities offers a $450 rebate to homeowners* and homebuilders who install a solar water-heating system. This rebate may be applied to a first-time installation or to the replacement of an older solar water-heating system. Homebuilders may also apply for the rebate when installing a solar water heater on a new home. Pool heating systems are not eligible for the rebate.
The homeowner must allow the City of Tallahassee to conduct an energy audit on the home in order to make a preliminary assessment of sun exposure and to provide program guidance. All solar water heating equipment must be indirect and freeze protected, certified by the Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC), and installed by a state-licensed solar or plumbing contractor. For installations arranged by homeowners, the contractor must request appropriate growth management permit(s) prior to installation, and must have appropriate inspection(s) of the completed installation by City of Tallahassee or Leon County Building Inspection. Installations by homebuilders must conform to all applicable city, county and state building and/or energy codes.
* Note that the rebate is available to property owners who install solar water heating systems on rental properties.
