SoCalGas - Non-Residential Energy Efficiency Rebate Programs

SoCalGas offers rebates for non-residential customers who install new energy-efficient natural gas equipment such as boilers, water heaters, commercial cooking equipment, and steam traps. To qualify, you must purchase and install eligible equipment (exceeding California Title 20 and 24 standards), then submit an application within the same calendar year as installation with proof of purchase and manufacturer specifications. Rebate amounts vary by equipment type—for example, commercial boilers range from $5–$9 per MBtuh, commercial fryers from $750–$1,200 per vat, and tankless water heaters from $0.45–$15 per MBtuh.

You can help commercial and agricultural customers access rebates by installing certified, new natural gas equipment that meets California efficiency standards and is installed within one year of purchase. For space heating boilers, you must be a licensed contractor and complete the Space Heating Authorization Form for the application to qualify. Customers must submit applications in the same calendar year as installation, including signed receipts, equipment manufacturer specifications, and your authorization form if required.

The Energy Efficiency Rebates for Business (EERB) program is administered by SoCalGas under California Public Utilities Commission oversight and funded by utility customers on a first-come, first-served basis. Eligible non-residential sectors include commercial, industrial, and agricultural; rebates cover prescriptive measures across equipment types with specific dollar amounts per unit (e.g., $100 per steam trap, $2,000 per rack oven). Applicants must install new equipment exceeding state efficiency standards within one year of purchase and submit complete applications—including W9 forms, receipts, and specifications—by year-end of the installation year; rebates over $600 are reported as taxable income on IRS Form 1099.
