Program Summary
Note: In 2012, CVPS merged with Green Mountain Power.
The biomass program has ended. Under terms of the sale of the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Corporation by multiple Vermont utilities to Entergy Nuclear, Central Vermont Public Service Corporation (CVPS) received credits from Nuclear Electric Insurance, Limited (NEIL) and American Nuclear Insurers (ANI). In approving the sale, the Vermont Public Service Board determined that "a significant portion" of NEIL and ANI credit amounts received by CVPS should be used toward the development and use of renewable-energy resources. The CVPS Renewable Development Fund encouraged the development of new renewable-energy projects that utilize anaerobic digestion of agricultural products, byproducts or wastes to produce electricity. This fund provided grants and other incentives, and a full time dedicated project coordinator, to support project development, project operations and interconnection to the grid. The amount and types of awards were made on a case-by-case basis. As of April 2012, the fund has supported ten farm projects that are operational, one under construction, and two in permitting stages of development. The fund has addditional technical and project management support to other farm projects (for example, several net-metered systems).
